Serigraph on paper, size 15" x 44"
Clos Pegase Winery was a competition won by Michael Graves and the presentation drawing were commissioned by The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art for exhibition and publication. The competition invited teams of architects and artists to envision a new winery in Napa Valley. When Michael Graves visited the site just before the competition, he was captivated by the vivid colors of the landscape, the structured patterns of the vineyards, and the remarkable quality of natural light—elements that reminded him of Tuscany, a place he held in the highest regard. The region’s rural architecture and deep connection to the land became key influences in shaping his design approach for the project.
Michael Graves (1934–2015) was a prominent American architect, designer, and educator known for his influential role in postmodern architecture and product design. A longtime professor at Princeton and a member of both The New York Five and the Memphis Group, Graves designed over 350 buildings worldwide, including the Portland Building and the Humana Building. His diverse work ranged from civic buildings and Disney projects to consumer products for Alessi, Target, and J.C. Penney. After becoming partially paralyzed in 2003, he became a leading advocate for healthcare design. Graves received numerous honors, including the AIA Gold Medal, the National Medal of Arts, and the Driehaus Prize.
Printed at JNP&P in 1988.
Signed and numbered by Michael Graves in a limited edition of 15.

A83 Editions

A83 is a nonprofit organization with a tripartite mission to exhibit, publish, and promote experimental projects in architecture, art, and design. Building from the previous operation, John Nichols Printmakers & Publishers (1978 –1994), the organization continues to operate at the original location in SoHo as a printmaking studio, gallery, and growing archive. The 83 Grand Street location is used to produce exhibitions and installations, host workshops, and broadcast work to new audiences.
